We have created a simple how-to-use guide for a few selected plastic card printers available at Easi-card to ensure that you are confident using your printer. We have selected these four plastic card printers due to their high-performance features and suitability to a wide range of budgets.

 

1) Entrust CR805 Simplex Retransfer Printer:

The Entrust CR805 Simplex Retransfer printer is ideally suited to printing ID cards. The high resolution, full-colour capabilities, and additional security features ensure that this printer is perfect for large businesses or organizations.

How to Use:

Power On: Plug in your Entrust CR805 printer, click the power button and allow the printer to warm up.

Cleaning Card: Before you load the ribbon and retransfer film, it is recommended to run a cleaning card through the Entrust CR805 printer. Open the input hopper, unwrap your cleaning card, and place it inside. Select “start cleaning card” under the maintenance tab in your Entrust CR805 printer menu. Remove the cleaning card from the output hopper and discard it.

Prepare Printer Cartridges: Open the side panel of the Entrust CR805 printer to view the printer cartridges. Remove the blue and yellow cartridges. First, you will need to load the cleaning sleeve. Place the cleaning sleeve on the cleaning sleeve spindle, remove the protective film, and place it back into the printer beneath the blue cartridge.

Install Print Ribbon: Next you need to install the print ribbon onto the blue cartridge. The print ribbon will come with a loading diagram. Place the print ribbon with the blue core on the blue receptacle and then wrap the print ribbon with the grey core around the poles and place it on the grey receptacle. Make sure you hear the print ribbons click into place. Place back into the printer.

Install Retransfer Film: On the yellow cartridge, place the retransfer film with the yellow core on the yellow receptacle. Wrap the retransfer film with the grey core around the poles and place it on the grey receptacle. Make sure you hear the retransfer films click into place. Place the yellow cartridge back into the printer and close the printer cartridge door.


Load Cards: Open the input hopper and place the cards inside. There is a diagram on the Entrust CR805 printer to demonstrate the correct direction the cards need to face.

Printing: You can print your cards by connecting your computer to your Entrust CR805 either through a USB cable or through the internet by connecting the printer with an ethernet cable.

2) Evolis Primacy:

The Evolis Primacy is the Evolis flagship product. The Evolis Primacy prints flawless cards quickly that can be suited to multiple purposes.

How to Use:

Power On: To switch on the Evolis Primacy, plug in the power supply cable into the back of the printer. There is also a USB cable on the power supply cable which needs to be attached. The Evolis Primacy light will come on.


Load Ribbon: Tap down on the top of the Evolis Primacy and the cover will pop open. It is important to note that the print head is located underneath the cover, and should never be touched or tampered with. The ribbon head will have two tails that need to be flicked up. There is only one direction the ribbon head will fit into the Evolis Primacy printer. Simply place the ribbon head into the Evolis Primacy and close the cover.


Insert Cards: Open the card input hopper. In the input hopper is a card thickness gauge. Ensure that the gauge matches the thickness of the card you are printing on. Then place your cards into the input hopper and close the hatch.

Printing: All your Evolis Primacy card printing is done through the Evolis Premium Suite software on your computer. You can connect your printer to your computer through a USB cable. You can also connect the Evolis Primacy to the internet through an ethernet cable and then your computer can connect to it.

Cleaning Cycle: It is recommended to do one cleaning cycle after you have printed one thousand cards. The Evolis Primacy printer will also use a flashing LED signal when the printer needs to be cleaned. First, you need to remove the ribbon head and close the cover. Open the input hopper, remove any cards, and set the card gauge to the max. Peel off the film of the cleaning card, place it in the input hopper adhesive-side up, and close the input hopper. Double-click the control panel’s push-button and the cleaning will start. Remove and discard the cleaning card when finished.

3) HID Fargo C50:HID Fargo C50 printer


The Fargo C50 is a perfect entry-level plastic card printer. It offers excellent card printing capabilities that are fast and efficient. The Fargo C50 is suitable for small businesses and will be a reliable investment.

How to Use:

Power On: Plug in your power cable and USB cable into the back of the Fargo C50. At this point, you can also plug the USB cable into your computer. Note, the printer will not switch on immediately. You will need to click the power button on the front of the Fargo C50. This is for energy efficiency purposes.

Insert Ribbon: Open the front door of the Fargo C50. Remove the ribbon head from the packaging and remove the film cover by pulling the white tab. Simply slot the ribbon head into the Fargo C50 and close the door. Printed on the door is the ribbon part number suited to the Fargo C50 to ensure that you always purchase and use the correct ribbon.

Insert Cards: On the side of the Fargo C50 is the card input hopper. Open the input hopper, push the lever down fully, place your cards inside, and then close the input hopper. The cards that have finished printing will pop into the output hopper on the opposite side of the printer.

Printing: All card printing is done through the Fargo C50 software on your computer. Your computer is connected to the Fargo C50 printer through the USB cable.

Cleaning: To clean your Fargo C50, first you need to remove the ribbon head. Peel the films off the cleaning card. On top of the input hopper, slot a cleaning card into the Fargo C50. On your Fargo C50 software on your computer, select the clean function. Discard the used cleaning card. It is recommended to do cleaning regularly.

4) Entrust Sigma DS2 Dual Sided ID Card System:

The Entrust Sigma DS2 Dual Sided ID Card System is a printer perfectly suited to first-time plastic card printer users. It is simple to use, produces perfect-quality cards, and is well-known for its excellent colour printing.

How to Use:

Power On: Plug in your power adapter into the side of your Entrust Sigma DS2, then press the on button to switch your printer on. You need to allow the Entrust Sigma DS2 to warm up and it will say “ready” on the screen when it is finished.


Install Ribbon: Open the printer cover on the top of the Entrust Sigma DS2 and remove the ribbon cartridge. The print head is located under the printer cover so you need to be careful when installing the ribbon head to not damage the print head. Installation is simple because the Entrust print ribbons are colour-coded making installing the ribbon simple. Place the print ribbon with the purple core onto the purple spindle and push it down until you hear a click. Then place the print ribbon with the sliver core onto the silver spindle and push down until you hear a click. Wind the silver-core print ribbon anti-clockwise until the ribbon is tight. Next, you need to install the cleaning roller. Remove the protective wrapper from the cleaning roller, lift the yellow leaver, and insert the cleaning roller. Place the ribbon cartridge back into the Entrust Sigma DS2 and ensure you hear a click to make sure it is properly closed.

Load Cards: Before you load the cards, fan them out to ensure none are stuck together. Open the input hopper, place the cards inside, and close the input hopper.

Printing: Card printing is done through a USB connection between your computer and your Entrust Sigma DS2. You can also connect your computer to the Entrust Sigma DS2 by connecting the printer to the internet with an ethernet cable.

Cleaning: It is recommended to clean your Entrust Sigma DS2 after two hundred and fifty cards have been processed. Your Entrust Sigma DS2 will also display an error message when it needs to be cleaned. Remove the printer cartridge. Remove the cleaning card from the packaging, place it into the empty input hopper, and close the input hopper. Select “cleaning card” under the maintenance menu to begin the cleaning process. Discard the used cleaning card.
